Back in time for a Victorian P7 Adventure!

9th Jan 2020

One day in Knocknagoney Primary School there was a P7 victorians day.

When everyone got in to school they saw people dressed up like victorian school children and their class room was looking like a Victorian classroom. It was empty and dark compared to our classroom normally! All of our bright posters were covered up with cloth and there was no computer, just a typewriter. There weren’t any electrical items so there were no iPads.

When everyone got into the class they found their seats and found out who had to put the coal on the fire place and then they started to work on their handwriting with their right hand but two children were left handed so they found it extremely difficult! When an adult came into the room we had to stand up and you weren’t allowed to speak unless you were spoken to.

In our lessons we had to use sand trays, slate and an ink pen. We had to copy out the same sentence over and over, “children should be seen and not heard”. The ink was my favourite to use, but when  I had finished with my writing, I had ink all over my thumb!

The girls had to wear a scarf and a skirt and the boys had to wear trousers, a cap and an old t- shirt. Boys and girls had their break which was in a brown paper bag then some of the boys were unhealthy and some were healthy and it was the same with the girls. The girls made the gruel while the boys did some engineering.

Soon later the girls were finished and so were the boys so then they went to lunch. The lunches went to the other P7 class and the dinners went down to the hall. After lunch the children went outside to do the drill in the cold- it was freezing!

After we did the drill we came inside to check and examine the toys. Since it was winter Santa was coming for the little children to give them gifts. Then all of the children went back to 2019 because it was home time.
