Numeracy provides children with a set of skills that enables them to understand the world around them. At Knocknagoney we seek to develop a positive and enthusiastic attitude towards Numeracy using a wide range of practical activities and games which encourage engagement and effective learning.

We cover all aspects of the curriculum, developing understanding of Number, Shape and Space, Data Handling, Measures and Problem Solving. Children are encouraged to develop quick and accurate mental maths skills to allow them to become confident mathematicians and problem solvers.

At Knocknagoney, we provide additional Numeracy support through the Maths Recovery Programme and enjoy links with BITCNI who deliver Time 2 Count sessions with our KS2 pupils. We are also fortunate to have a Numeracy support teacher this year, Mrs Mills, who withdraws small groups of children for targeted sessions to help them reach their full potential.

Children from P2 onwards have access to a Mathletics and MyMaths account which provides them with targeted, interactive activities to develop their skills in Numeracy. In KS2 we enjoy problem solving sessions using IZAK9, a fantastic resource that helps us develop our understanding and use mathematical language!
